Google I/O: Kotlin, a popular new language for mobile platforms that's compatible with Java, is now officially supported on Android.

This is what libraries in Android Studio are for. They simply extend the capabilities of Java/Kotlin/the Android SDK by letting you use classes and methods built by other users.

Kotlin offers big advantages over Java for JVM and Android development, and plays nicely with Java in the same projects.

Java and Android Studio have a steep learning curve, however. Kotlin – Kotlin is another official Android language. It is similar to Java in many ways but is a little easier to get your head around.

Google will now contribute to the further growth of Kotlin and build new tools directly into Android Studio to make it even more useful.
