"The kids can compete in competitive cheer without a whole lot of background of cheerleading or gymnastics because level 1 cheer starts out so basic that any kid could compete," Farrar said.

Blackfoot’s 3.1 level is a hybrid, for teams who compete at the highest level in some portions of their routines but a lower level in other portions, Century head coach Meagan Brockett explained.

Hundreds of cheerleading squads across the state are competing this weekend at the 2024 PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships at Hershey’s Giant Center.
