An update to macOS and how Apple's File Provider API works will soon force apps like Dropbox to end support for external drives.

File syncing is a godsend when you work on multiple computers or devices and want to make sure you have the most up-to-date files wherever you log in.

What does change, though, is the ability to sync – if your paid account has been knocked down to a basic, free account, that could mean storage space dropping from 1TB to just 2GB.
